Joseph Stephan Slowensky (Joe), 80, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away peacefully Friday, October 12, 2018. He was born in St Louis, Missouri, on February 21, 1938. Joe graduated from Ottumwa High School in Iowa and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University. He was married to Sylvia Jane Meyer on May 18, 1963, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year.
Joe had a career in the oil and gas industry working for Gulf Oil and Chevron Chemical Corporation. He was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and The Woodlands United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golf in his early retirement years, jazz music, trivia games, and his four grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Joseph Meyer Slowensky of Orange County, California, Amy Slowensky McVay and son-in-law Gregory McVay of Slidell, Louisiana, Laura Slowensky Stanley and son-in-law Matthew Stanley of Bellaire, Texas; grandchildren Cheyenne Marie Slowensky, Lacey Jane Slowensky, Brennan Stephan Stanley, and Reagan Jane McVay; and sister, Sue Rathgeb. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Andrew Slowensky and Clara Genevieve Stephan, brother, Relfe Theodore Slowensky and daughter-in-law Charmee Slowensky.
A visitation and viewing will be held at The Woodlands United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM for those interested with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM and a Reception to follow, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Family and Joe’s close friends will have a brief Graveside Service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery at 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.
