

Joy M. Kolbe died on January 17, 2012, at her home in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born January 15, 1920, to Ila Lee (Brooks) Watkins and Wilber O. Watkins of Douglass, Texas. Joy is a descendant of a founding family of Texas, Jesse J. Watkins of Nacogdoches County. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William H. Kolbe, daughter Patricia K. Gordinier and husband Hollace (Bud) Gordinier, son James W. Kolbe, grandchildren, Andrew J. Kolbe and Caroline E. Kolbe, and her brother James O. Watkins and wife Wilma. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Laverne (Watkins) Johnson, husband Odis C. Johnson and half-sister Elaine Johnson Baker.
Joy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved to entertain family and friends and to travel. Joy was very active in American Cancer Society fund raising. Gardening, shopping and working with photographs were her hobbies. She loved music. Prior to moving back to Texas she had lived in Michigan 47 years. She is a member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church and previously a member of The United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Michigan.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 4pm until 8pm. Funeral Service will be Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00am in the Robb Chapel of The Woodlands United Methodist. Interment will follow at Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or the charity of one’s choice are appreciated by the family
