Kenneth G. Bauske was born in Chicago Illinois on December 28, 1931. He was the son of Herman Albert Bauske and Beatrice Carey Bauske, brother of Robert John Bauske, all since deceased. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Des Plaines, Illinois where he attended grade and high school.
He enrolled in Lawrence University in 1949, graduating with majors in Psychology and Economics. While there, he met and fell in love with Faye Marjorie Koberstein, and they were married when he returned from Korea.
Ken proudly served in the 7th Infantry Division. While in Korea, Ken received a commendation for performance of his duties as an Order of Battle Specialist. The commendation highlights his “devotion to duty, cheerful disposition, and soldierly attitude” and that he “won the respect of all with whom he worked”.
Ken and Faye’s happy marriage of 58 years produced three children, Ann Fuchs of Spring, Texas, Ellen Bauske of Griffin, Georgia, and Kurt Bauske of Tomball, Texas, as well as five grandchildren (Kyle Fuchs of Spring, Texas; Margaret Fuchs Kizer of Sugarland, Texas; Mary Sikora and Martha Sikora of Atlanta, Georgia; and Kurt Bauske of Tomball, Texas), and two great grandchildren.
Ken retired as Director of Information Systems from Ameritech Service in 1988 after 33 years with Illinois Bell, Bell Telephone Laboratories, and Ameritech Services.
Ken believed in education and ensured his children and grandchildren had every opportunity to learn. He helped them receive seven bachelor’s degrees, six master’s degrees, and one PhD.
Ken loved words. He was passionate about poetry, books and history. He relished stories, wit, and jokes (not just the clean ones) and was the Chicago area Toastmaster winner in 1960. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes of all types. An avid jogger, Ken logged 17,000 miles before his knees begged him to retire. Watching amateur wrestling and professional football gave him great pleasure.
He loved and was dearly loved. We will miss him.
