MacArthur Williams was born in Buffalo, Texas on May 25, 1918. Mac was preceded in death by his parents Honor Williams and Ella Williams Payton, sisters Mildred Siacca and Bessie L. Williams and his beloved wife Bessie J. Williams. Mac is survived by his daughter Carol Janiece Summers, grandson Shawn Summers and wife Denise, granddaughter Laura Sheppard and husband Clive, great granddaughters Taylor Summers and Devin Summers, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loved family he has welcomed into his heart over the past Century.
As a young child, Mac lost his father at the age of 8 and stayed in school for only a few years before having to do farm work with his mother to help take care of the family. When Mac was 17, he joined the CCC Camp (Civilian Conservation Corp.), or as he called it, the Tree Army, building roads and doing land surveying all around East Texas. Mac went to work at Reed Roller Bit in 1937 where he worked for a total of 41 years. During that time there was a brief delay in his career due to WWII where Mac served in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate making parts for the ships. Though he only served 18 months, Mac was proud to have served his country.
Mac and Bess met through family and were married June 29, 1940. They were married 76 years 5 months and 12 days. Mac always said "I spent longer with her than I spent with any other person on this earth." Their commitment to each other was admirable to us all. Janiece was born early in their marriage and was their only child. Mac enjoyed watching Janiece grow up and teaching her how to fix things. He passed on to her his meticulous ways. Shawn was born near the end of Mac's work career and after retirement was when all the fun began. Together they built forts and go-carts, mowed grass and went fishing and hunting. It was Pappa, as he was named by Shawn, who introduced Shawn to a passion for hunting. Pappa was 81 when he became a great grandfather. Nothing can describe the feelings he had for his great granddaughters, Taylor and Devin. He taught them how to shuck peas, shell pecans and how to work the garden. From picking her up from elementary school every day with a glass of chocolate milk to FaceTime visits while off at college, Pappa watched Taylor grow into a young woman. He loved having a bowl of coffee ice cream at night with Devin talking to her about church and small group and he even made it to a football game to see her being the mascot. These girls kept him going and brought him so much joy.
Mac accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in the San Jacinto River with his beloved daughter, Janiece, in 1948 after hearing a sermon calłed "The Quarry of Sin" at a revival Bess convinced him to attend. From that point on Mac and Bess were devoted children of the Lord who took part in many church's around the Houston area. Their belief was to always contribute to the Building Fund to help their Church grow. They would seek other opportunities to help churches grow and continued to follow the path the Lord would lead them on. They always felt most at home worshipping with their North Oaks family.
Mac went to be with our Lord and Savior January 20, 2021. He was a blessing to all that knew him and touched many people throughout his life. He will be laid to rest Tuesday, January 26, 2021 with visitation beginning at 10AM and funeral service to follow at 11AM at North Oaks Baptist Church, 18411 Stuebner Airline Road, Spring, Texas 77379. A family graveside service will be held at Forest Park The Woodlands.
