Mark Alan Johnson

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Dr. Mark Alan Johnson on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the age of 63. Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, physician, and friend. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his dedication to caring for others, his adventurous spirit, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life and career.

Mark was born to Robert Johnson and Nelda Driskill on January 8, 1963, in Lafayette, Louisiana. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern State University on a full athletic scholarship. During his time there, he was named a National Football Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete and helped his team win the Gulf Star Conference Championship. From there, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1990.

In 1988, he married the love of his life, Toncie Laborde. Together, Mark and Toncie built a life in The Woodlands, where they raised their three children: Tyce Johnson (Sierra Johnson), Ellie Workman (Brock Workman), and Alana Clark (Kyle Clark). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jax, Brody, and Ryker Johnson, and Clayton and Jude Clark. He also leaves behind his siblings, Patricia Bunting, Sherry Regnier, Susan Kerr, Keith Johnson, and Ken Johnson, who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelda and Robert Johnson; niece Aden Johnson; and nephew Stephan Johnson.

Mark dedicated more than 30 years of his life to medicine as a general surgeon. During his time in residency at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana, he served as chief resident and was honored with the Nancy Landman Award, recognizing a physician who exemplifies empathy, leadership, and devotion to patients, colleagues, and the community. Throughout his career, he was an innovator and pioneer in the use of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery. He also served as an assistant professor at Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Clerkship Director for General Surgery at SHSU COM, sharing his knowledge and passion for medicine with the next generation of physicians. Mark established his own practice, where he cared for countless patients and made a lasting difference in the lives of those he cared for. Throughout his career, Mark earned the deep respect of his colleagues and the medical community he served. This was reflected in his being named Physician of the Quarter at Conroe Regional Medical Center, serving as Chairperson of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, and serving on the Board of the Renaissance Physicians Organization.

Outside of medicine, Mark lived an active and adventurous life. He loved golfing, surfing, fishing, paintball, and paddleboarding. Yet, of all the things he enjoyed, nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family. Some of his greatest joys were found in the simple moments shared with the people he loved.

A visitation is scheduled for September 8, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Forest Park Funeral Home in The Woodlands. The funeral Mass is scheduled for September 9, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in The Woodlands. A reception will follow at the church. Father Mathew will officiate the ceremony.
