Mary Ruth was born on October 24, 1927, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Jesse Lewis Cotton and Mary Gertrude Sharp Cotton. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School in June 1945 and went on to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she studied business.
On April 16, 1950, she married Fred Graves Murray Jr. Their marriage spanned forty-five years until his passing in June 1995. She later married Thomas Flint Williams in May 1997, and they shared sixteen years together until his passing in July 2013.
Mary Ruth is survived by her son, Brian Murray, and her niece, Carol Cotton Carter Terry.
Throughout her life, Mary Ruth was deeply committed to her faith and to serving others. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a devoted member of The Woodlands Methodist Church. She had a lifelong love of history, travel, and art, but what brought her the greatest joy was helping others. She believed that caring for people in need was a natural expression of her Christian faith and a meaningful way to serve God.
Those who knew Mary Ruth will remember her generous spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community. Her life was marked by grace, kindness, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others.
