Merry Barnette Young, 68 years old, passed away May 15, 2024, in Spring, Texas. She was born September 3, 1955, in Atlanta, Georgia, to John Lafayette Massey and Dannie Jeane Pope Massey. Merry, raised in Houston, Texas, graduated from Milby High School in 1974.
Merry married Frank Nelson Young in 1975, and together they travelled throughout the United States for his work. Merry proficient with spreadsheets worked her way up in the corporate world and retired as fleet manager for WorldCom, later acquired by MCI. Merry and her husband retired in Mounds, OK, where she resided until April 2024. After a long illness attributed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Merry moved back to Texas and went into hospice care.
Merry’s parents and her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by sister, Kathryn Massey Sanders (Steve), brother John Lafayette Massey, Jr. (Therisa), sister Patricia Joye Morris (Gerald), sister Laurie Jeane Brantley (Craig), uncle William Barna Pope, Jr., and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
In honoring her wishes, Merry’s siblings will spread her ashes together with her husband’s in Oklahoma.
