Michael Nye Schwendeman

Mike was born on July 28, 1940 in Findlay, Ohio to Ralph and Margaret Schwendeman. He attended Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, TX graduating in 1958 where he excelled both academically and in sports. He then attended The University of Texas, graduating in 1965 with a degree in chemical engineering. He went on to enjoy a distinguished career in the chemical industry where he held numerous positions, including Plant Manager and Vice President of Latin America Sales at ISK Biosciences before retiring in 1999. He was respected not only for his accomplishments but also for his leadership and dedication to those he worked alongside.

Mike was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Mary with whom he shared a life filled with love, faith, travel and time with friends and family. He was a proud father to Julie Woods and husband Steve and to his son, Todd Schwendeman who preceded him in death. Mike also cherished his bonus daughters, Kim Temple and husband Brian and Cari Dimmick and husband Curt. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren - Rachel and husband Ben, Amanda, Cole, Luke, Zack, Grace and Sam - and one great granddaughter, Carter. He is

survived by his siblings, Jerry Schwendeman, Mary Bagwell and husband Louis, Sam Schwendeman and wife, Teresa, while his brother Pat Schwendeman preceded him in death.

Mike was a faithful member of The Woodlands Methodist Church and actively served in several ministries, including the choir, Shepherd Care, Worship Serve Team and the Perspectives Sunday School class. His faith was his foundation and he found great fulfillment in serving both his church and his community. He also enjoyed a variety of hobbies playing the piano, guitar and singing. He was also an avid golfer for much of his life.

He will be remembered for his warm smile, intelligence and genuine kindness but especially for his witty sense of humor. He embraced life with enthusiasm, gratitude and an unmatched positive attitude even as he courageously fought cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, humility and service that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 2:00pm in Robb Chapel at The Woodlands Methodist Church.
