Born and raised in Virginia, Monty graduated from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg. During high school, he was an exchange student in Normandy, France, where he developed a mastery of the language and became fluent in French. He continued his education at the University of Virginia, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. After starting his career as a network engineer in Northern Virginia, his ambition led him to pursue higher education. He moved to Austin, Texas, where he attended the University of Texas and graduated from the McCombs School of Business with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA). In Austin, he strived to establish a successful career as a cybersecurity expert. An incredibly industrious man, no job was below Monty as he was always ready to take any opportunity that was available to him.
Monty was a proud and devoted traveler. He was an avid international traveler, exploring far-flung places such as Australia and visiting Hawaii several times. He developed many deep and lasting international friendships along the way. Monty also embraced his Native American heritage, a commitment he demonstrated by establishing the Native American Student Union while at the University of Virginia, an organization that continues to thrive today. He often traveled to Canada to visit relatives and connect with his roots. While in Canada, he indulged his great love for hockey and, of course, poutine.
Monty was a truly compassionate soul, known for always striving to help others in need before himself. He brightened every room he entered with his gentle nature and his memorable smile. He found immense joy and relaxation by the beach, particularly at Hilton Head Island, a special family vacation spot. His deepest affections, however, were reserved for his two beloved dogs, Ranger and Bubba.
He is lovingly remembered and survived by his brother, Andrew Johns, and his parents, Valerie and Montgomery Johns Sr. He will be severely missed by his family, friends, and the many international connections he made.
