She is survived by her brother Dennis Hickton of Blackpool, her son Paul and his wife Betty, son Don and his wife Meri, daughter Julie and her husband Ron Nolan; her grandchildren Lesley, Taylor and Paul, her great-grandson Kalob and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in England.
Muriel was a war bride; brought to America by her late husband James Raydon Nelson, who served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was stationed near Blackpool during World War II. An avid reader, a lover of history, a keeper of journals and a teacher, she stressed the importance of questioning everything in life that we thought to be true.
Muriel brought with her from England a heart made of gold and lived every day of her life to the betterment of those around her. She and her good deeds will long be remembered by those who came to know her.
A private family remembrance ceremony will be held at a later date.
