Nancy was born March 5, 1948 in Davenport, Iowa. Her parents were Merle Johnson, from Damon, Texas and Shirley Barber, from Norwich, Connecticut. She met and married there while attending Palmer Chiropractic College. After their graduation, before Nancy was a year old, they moved to Rosenberg, Texas and opened the Johnson Chiropractic Clinic in 1948.
Nancy graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg in 1966 and attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas where she received a BFA degree in art with a teaching certificate. Nancy taught art in the Conroe
Independent School District for 32 years. Most of those years in The Woodlands.
Nancy's artistic abilities allowed her to have a successful business doing faux finishes, murals, hand painted ceramic tiles and commissioned paintings for various Home Builder's in The Woodlands area. She also did numerous commissioned work for individual clients in and around The Woodlands working with interior decorators. After retirement, she continued her love of art by enrolling in classes at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, part of The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, where she received a Certificate of Achievement in painting in 2013. Nancy has displayed her work in numerous art galleries in the Houston area and has also shown her work in various juried and non-juried art shows throughout the years. She was a member of the Conroe Art League, the Watercolor Arts Society of Houston and the Visual Arts Alliance of Houston. One of her watercolors is on display in the Teacher Retirement Building in Austin, Texas. Another one of her paintings was chosen for the December 2014 issue of Artist Magazine. Through Ingram Lightning Source, a self-publishing book company, Nancy illustrated, edited and created a children's book called "The Last Christmas Tree" from a poem written by her husband Thom.
Nancy was a long time member of Unity of The Woodlands Church, and served on the board of directors at one time. Nancy's goal was always to be a better artist. She achieved that and so much more. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.
