Peggy Bell Genthner of Conroe, Texas passed from this life to her heavenly home on August 9, 2026. She was born in Rice, Texas on October 23, 1933, fourteen months after her sister Jane, to Fannie Kate Wright Bell and Ward H. Bell.
Ward was tragically killed on his job 2 1/2 years later, leaving Fannie Kate with two daughters to raise. Her grandparents, Papa & Mama Wright, moved them to their farm in Alma, Texas where Peggy and Jane lived until ages 12 and 13. They moved to Ennis, Texas where Fannie Kate was employed at Ennis Tag and Sales Book Company.
After graduating high school at age 16, Peggy and Jane moved in with their aunt and uncle and Dallas. Peggy was employed at an insurance company and then an advertising agency before becoming an airline flight attendant for American Airlines flying from New York, Dallas and Washington, D.C.
In 1955, she married Charles Genthner in Alexandria, Virginia. She got a job as secretary for the Public Relations Officer in the office of the Surgeon General of the Air Force in the Pentagon. While living in that area, they attended the Church of Christ where Jack Exum was the preacher.
After Charles' tour of duty in the Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia ended, they moved to Austin, Texas where Charles finished his degree in Business and Engineering. They worshipped at the University Church of Christ while there.
Then they moved to Garland, Texas, then to Dallas where they worshipped at Skillman Church of Christ where John Banaster was the preacher.
Their first daughter, Joan (Malea) was born in Ennis, Texas. Their second daughter, Ellen, was born in Dallas.
They lived in Houston six years where they worshipped at Pecan Park Church of Christ before moving to Conroe, Texas in 1968 where Charles opened his insurance agency and Peggy graduated nursing school, earning her LVN certification in 1970. She worked at the old Montgomery County Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Sadler Clinic, several other doctors' offices and the Forum Assisted Living Facility in the Woodlands before retiring in 2010.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Malea and Ellen; her granddaughters, Desire' and Bethany; nephews Gregg and Beth Smith, Jimmy and Jeanette Murphy, Ernie and Gail Genthner; niece Nancy and Bob Baker and numerous great nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to the ASPCA, Wounded Warriors, Samaritan's Purse or a charity of your choice.
Peggy loved the Lord, her family and this great country. She loved animals and the veterans who fought to keep this country safe.
A visitation for Ms. Peggy will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 17, 2026 with burial to follow.
