Peter David Sorapure passed away on May 24, 2025, in The Woodlands, Texas, at the age of 84. Born in Portsmouth, UK, on February 26, 1941, Peter lived a life full of independence, wit, and curiosity of the world.
His early childhood was shaped by World War II, including surviving German bombing raids and witnessing the German U-boat surrender in 1945. Educated at St. Richard’s and The Oratory School, Peter excelled in cricket and developed a love for learning and exploration.
After a brief time in the Royal Navy, he left to pursue life on his own terms—first emigrating to Australia, then moving to South Africa, where he became a beloved wildlife tour guide. A self-taught expert in ornithology, Peter led countless safaris and global tours, known for his sharp eye and detailed preparation.
Later, he settled in the U.S. with his wife Pamela S. Clark, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Richard Sorapure, and sister-in-law, Barbara, who remember him for his dry humor, love of nature, and memorable phone calls—often ended by his cat Tigger’s mealtime.
Peter’s life was guided by a deep sense of adventure and a refusal to follow the beaten path. He will be deeply missed.
A graveside service for Peter will be held Friday, June 6, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 South, The Woodlands, TX 77384.
