Raymond C. Stubbs

Captain R. Cooper Stubbs died peacefully on May 18, 2013 at his home and in the presence of his family. He was born June 25, 1927 in Bismarck, N.D and later moved to Santa Barbara, CA where he graduated from high school and enlisted in the Navy. He later graduated from Stanford University and Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. He had a BS in Economics and a MS in Management. Captain Stubbs was a veteran of WWII, the Korean era and the Vietnam War. He served his country for nearly 34 years including shore billets on both coasts, 6 years in Japan, tours on a cruiser and an aircraft carrier. After retiring from the Navy in 1977 he worked for Bechtel Power Corporation at a number of locations, including Saudi Arabia and Midland, MI where he retired and lived for many years.

Cooper was an active volunteer with the Midland Theater Guild as a set builder while in Midland. His other hobby was to support the endeavors of those he loved, whether it be hanging his wife’s art work in a local gallery, being a volunteer baseball umpire, hauling motor-cross bikes to trials competitions, attending swim meets or piano recitals. In 2012, Cooper and his wife Jacqueline Berger Stubbs of Seattle, WA, relocated to The Woodlands, TX to be closer to their daughter and grand-daughter. He will be remembered as an endless source of economic advice and political commentary, never missing an opportunity to share his wisdom and humor.

He is survived by Jacqueline, his daughter Tracey Stubbs, his grand-daughter Tawny Lara, his son David Starr of Alameda, CA, his brother Duane Stubbs and wife Sally of Vienna, VA, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends made during his military service and many years in Midland, MI. A memorial service was held at Forest Park - The Woodlands Funeral Home on May 22, 2013. Those who were unable to attend may sign the on line guest book at www.forestparkthewoodlands.com. Captain Stubbs will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery at a date and time to be determined.
