Richard Clayton Osburn, 79, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on July 30, 1946, in Clovis, New Mexico, to George and Troy Osburn and grew up alongside his older brother, Jerry.
Richard graduated from Clovis High School. He excelled as a multi-sport athlete in both football and track, earning First Team All-State honors as a running back. On the track, he was a key contributor to the school-record setting mile relay team that captured a state championship and recorded the second-fastest time in the nation. In addition to his relay accomplishments, he also set a school record in the hurdles. His exceptional performance on the track earned him a college scholarship to Texas Western College, later renamed the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). With his infectious personality and unforgettable smile he was voted Class Favorite by his classmates. He remained close to his high school teammates, coach, and lifelong friends, cherishing those relationships throughout the years.
While attending college, Richard enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from March 1967 to January 1971. After completing his military service, he returned to UTEP to finish his degree.
Richard dedicated over 53 years of his professional life to Petroleum Wholesale, where he served as Executive Vice President. His leadership, integrity, and strong work ethic left a lasting impact on both the company and those who worked alongside him.
In June of 1979, while moving to Ada, Oklahoma, Richard met the love of his life, Stephanie. They were married on December 19, 1984, and shared 41 wonderful years together. Their marriage was marked by deep love, laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion.
Richard was a faithful member of The Woodlands Methodist Church. He had a heart for missions, especially prison ministry, and found great purpose in serving others and sharing his faith.
An active and energetic man, Richard loved running, sports, swimming, boating, doing yard work, and spending time outdoors. He treasured beach vacations, time with family, laughing with friends, and playing with his grandchildren.
He will be remembered as loving, generous, humble, kind, honest, funny, and hardworking. Above all, Richard loved his family deeply and faithfully served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His family feels incredibly blessed to have shared a lifetime of memories, love, and laughter with him.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Stephanie, children Cory Osburn and his wife Laura, Dannye Fugate and her husband Hunter, Brooke Cayot and her husband Eric, and Adrian Osburn.
