Rita was born in New Orleans as one of 6 children to her mother, Rita Young Williams Green and her father, Oscar Green. From an early age, Rita displayed a remarkable spirit of compassion and resilience. She dedicated her life to her family, raising her daughter Brandy on her own after her marriage ended. Known for her warm smile and generous heart, she touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Rita was a devout member of Israelite Baptist Church for years prior to her relocation to Houston following Hurricane Katrina. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light to her family and community, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Rita enjoyed movies, going to concerts, plays, and comedy shows. She also loved playing slot machines, always dreaming of hitting it big. She was well known for her great cooking skills, especially her seafood pies. Rita really enjoyed being a grandmother to Journey and River. She enjoyed participating in all her grandchildren’s activities and was so very proud of their accomplishments and the individuals they are blossoming into. She regularly attended all school functions and activities.
Rita will be remembered for her love of family and community, her dedication to her faith, and her endless kindness to others. Though she had only one biological child, she mothered countless others, being the “rock” they needed to guide them through the storms of life. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Rita was preceded in death by her mother, Rita Young Williams Green, her father, Oscar Green, and her brother, Paul Williams. Rita leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Brandy Fuller (Karriem), her granddaughter, Journey Fuller, her grandson, River Fuller, her sisters, Dianne Williams, Paula Zachary, Deborah Sanders, and Michelle Young and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
