August 4, 1936 – June 8, 2026
Robert Gene “Bob” Schearer, 89, of The Woodlands, Texas, died on June 8, 2026. He was born on August 4, 1936, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Paul and Grace (Fetterman) Schearer.
Bob moved with his family to Wilson, New York, shortly after graduating from high school in Niagara Falls, New York. On June 29, 1957, Bob married Elizabeth (“Liz”) Wilber, and together they shared nearly sixty-nine years of marriage across New York and Texas.
After high school, Bob served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves from 1955 to 1957. In 1968, he began a 28-year career with Harrison Radiator Company in Lockport, New York and was a member of the UAW Local 686 during that time. Bob remained in Wilson until 1999, when he and Liz moved to The Woodlands, Texas, where he lived until shortly before his death.
Bob was a man of broad interests and many talents. A gifted handyman, he took great pride in maintaining his family’s homes. He enjoyed fishing, and he golfed with relish well into his eighties. Bob was an accomplished artist, especially in wood carving. He shared his talent by giving away many of his carvings to family members, friends, and charitable causes. For many years during retirement, Bob even taught a class for wood carvers of all skill levels.
Bob had a great Christian faith. During his time in Wilson, he taught Sunday school and served in several roles in Exley Community Church, as well as being a Boy Scout leader and an active member of the Wilson Historical Society. After moving to Texas, Bob and Liz enjoyed attending their Sunday school class for many years at The Woodlands Methodist Church, as well as providing volunteer services together at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Grace (Fetterman) Schearer of Wilson, New York; his brother George Schearer and his wife Adele of St. Petersburg, Florida; his sister-in-law, Sue (Argue) Schearer of Wilson, New York; and his granddaughter, Whitney Grace Kirkendall of The Woodlands, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Wilber) Schearer of Navasota, Texas; his brother, Ronald Schearer of Wilson, New York; his sister, Jane Schearer Eaton and her husband Norrie of Mansfield, Texas; his son, Robert Paul Schearer of Erie, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Susan E. Kirkendall and her husband Tom of The Woodlands, Texas; his daughter, Marylynn DeSalvo and her husband Vincent of Brenham, Texas; and his daughter, Ann Margaret Schearer of Malta. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
At Bob and Liz’s request, there will be no memorial service. The family asks that memorial contributions in his memory be directed to Exley Community Church of Wilson, New York, Enhabit Hospice of The Woodlands and College Station, Texas, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
