An easy smile, a quick laugh and a playful spirit is a brief description of our Ronnie, Ronald to his mom, and Ron to most everyone else. Sadly, Ron Shaffer, 66, of The Woodlands, Texas, left this world on September 22, 2026, surrounded by love and faith of his wife, Daphane and sister, Donna, after a daunting battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD).
Born on February 25, 1960, in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, Ron was the fifth of six children and the only son of John E. “Jack” and Phyllis Shaffer. As the only boy, with five sisters, he loved and tormented them mightily, and quite often a bb gun was involved. He excelled in multiple sports, getting a football scholarship to Juniata College where he graduated in 1982. However, it was working with his father in the plumbing business that helped him get his first job with Owens-Corning Fiberglass. Home in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania was always a place to get grounded, no matter if living in Louisiana, California, Texas or Netherlands! He shared 39 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Daphane. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, adventure, and enduring friendships.
Fiberglass opened up avenues for Ron, at first selling Fiberglas Tubs & Showers in Memphis, TN then selling Fiberglass Storage Tanks in California. For nearly four decades, working with a lot of the same people, he moved from California to Houston and the Netherlands, then back to Houston. He really enjoyed the relationships he made at Containment Solutions and ultimately retired as an Executive for N.O.V. in 2021. His leadership, integrity, and ability to build lasting relationships were hallmarks of Ron’s career. Whether celebrating someone's successes, quietly offering support during difficult times, or making everyone around him laugh, Ron had a remarkable gift for making people feel important and valued.
Retirement allowed Ron to devote more time to the things he loved most. An avid golfer and admirer of the outdoors, he found peace in nature and treasured time spent at the small mountain home he and Daphane enjoyed in Brevard, North Carolina. There, surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, he embraced the slower pace of life and created cherished memories.
Ron’s legacy is that he will be remembered as an exceptional and devoted son, husband, brother, uncle, friend and co-worker. He had a playful spirit that could brighten any room, a quick smile that put others at ease. A generous heart that knew no limits. His kindness was genuine, his loyalty unwavering, and his willingness to help others was simply a part of who he was.
In addition to his mother, Phyllis, of Selinsgrove, PA, Ron is survived by his wife, Daphane; his 5 sisters, Patti Jenkins and Linda Dressler, both of Selinsgrove, Shirley Shaffer of Shavertown, PA, Donna Shaffer-Micucci of New Hampshire and Karen Shaffer Penny of Maryland; five brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Shaffer.
As a man who liked to dress in golf attire or at the least, comfortably, please come ready to Celebrate this wonderful man, in whatever you like.
