Born in Gibson, Louisiana, to Fenwick Morgan Ross and Beatrice (Gaudet) Ross, Ron graduated from Thibodaux High School and attended Nicholls State University and Foothill College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was named Airman of the Year, before beginning a 35-year career with United Airlines. There, he served as a senior publications editor and held a variety of other roles.
Ron met Gina (Lazzari) Ross while living in California. They were married on July 22, 1967. Their partnership spanned nearly six decades.
Ron was a man of many interests and talents, with an insatiable curiosity about the world around him. A voracious reader and avid Civil War enthusiast, he had a deep appreciation for history. He was also a Piper Cub pilot, a skilled craftsman and mechanic, and a race car driver who loved working with his hands and figuring out how things worked. His interests reflected an inquisitive mind, always eager to explore, understand, and share what he had learned.
Ron possessed a remarkable gift for storytelling, writing, and public speaking. He could bring a story to life, captivate an audience, and share his knowledge in a way that made people listen. A true patriot, Ron held strong beliefs and was never afraid to speak his mind or take an unpopular stance when he felt it was the right thing to do. He valued independent thought and stood firmly by his convictions.
His commitment to faith and to sharing knowledge and life experience extended beyond his own interests. Ron taught CCD classes, helping teens learn about their Catholic faith while also offering practical lessons about life and the world. He believed in the importance of education, learning from experience, and passing knowledge on to the next generation.
Ron’s career with United Airlines complemented his passion for travel. Together, he and Gina, the “Traveling Duo,” explored the world, visiting all seven continents and creating a lifetime of shared adventures and memories.
Above all, Ron cherished his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking tremendous pride in their lives and sharing his stories, knowledge, skills, and experiences with them.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gina; his children, Aimee (Ross) Angel, Jennifer (Ross) Abdelmalek, and Chad Ross; his grandchildren, Morgan Angel, Anderson Angel, Jackson Abdelmalek, and Ella Ross; and his sister, Betsy (Ross) Naquin.
He will be remembered as a man of conviction, intellect, kindness, and a sense of humor. He was a patriot, a writer, a storyteller, a teacher, a craftsman, and a lifelong student of history who never lost his desire to learn or to share what he knew. His adventurous spirit, distinctive voice, and willingness to stand by his beliefs left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose stories, words, and example will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.
