On October 15th, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather (Bigdad) passed away. Upon his passing, the world lost a man who personified his generation. He was a gentle, kind, compassionate man. Roy was someone you could depend on and ask for any advice. His leadership, contagious energy and infectious personality enabled Roy to accomplish many goals.
In 1957, Roy entered the U.S. Army receiving his basic training in Colorado Springs, CO. He later served in the U.S. Army Guided Missiles Division in Germany where he was commended for never missing a target. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1959, Roy relocated to Houston, TX and furthered his education at the University of Houston.
Roy and Marie married on April, 27, 1957 and lived in El Paso, TX where Roy was stationed for advanced training in Guided Missiles by the U.S. Army. There they made enduring friendships which have continued to this day.
In 1963 they moved back to Houston, TX after spending a short time in Victoria, TX. They resided in Spring, TX in 1971 when he began a long career at Gerber Baby products. They eventually settled in their final home in 1996 in The Woodlands, TX where they enjoyed a full life filled with family and friends. Roy retired from Gerber in April 1998 and enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife, Marie. Early in life, he always took pride in how he presented himself. He valued life and nurtured those things most important to him—family, friendship and community. He was always looking to help fix this or that with his many tools and trinkets. He was a loyal companion, father and friend throughout his life. He cared deeply for his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time together.
Roy is survived by his close knit and loved family (his wife, Marie) a daughter, Simone Marie Houston and husband Edward L. Houston, and a son Roy L. (Jay) Brunson, Jr. and wife Elizabeth, and his son Justin (JB) Brunson, granddaughters Amanda Marie Pallotta and husband Dominic Pallotta with children Layla and Landon, other granddaughter Haley Odlozil (deceased July 2023) and husband Taylor Odlozil and their son Weston. Brothers Bobby James, Ailan and Wallace, Sisters Elizabeth, Leila Murrel and many nieces and nephews.
This was a man loved by many not only because of his abilities, which he shared so generously, but because of his loving kindness, his great sense of humor and his gentle soul. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, a man who loved God, his Country and his family and proved it daily by a life well lived for 89 years.
