

In his youth, he participated in sports, music, 4-H, church, DeMolay, joined the Iowa National Guard and helped on the farm his parents, Roy and Audrey Stevenson, both deceased, lived on near Humboldt, Iowa. He met his future wife of 64 years, Sandra Joyce Helmich, in 4-H in his senior year of high school.
Roy graduated from Humboldt High School in 1956.
Roy began his engineering career as a student at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1956. He participated in football for 1 year, was a member of Pershing Rifles and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, Infantry, upon graduation in 1961. His major was Industrial Engineering and Roy graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961.
He married the love of his life Sandy, on November 29, 1959. She survives him. He deferred active duty in the Army for one year and went to work for Ingersoll-Rand Company, a career that lasted for 34 years. While on active duty, the first assignment was Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and then the Pershing Missile Unit in South Korea for a year. Roy spent his off duty time working with orphans in Korea and with the I-R operation in South Korea. He continued to be in the Army Reserves until business commitments no longer allowed him the time he needed for the reserves and he was honorably discharged as an Army Captain after 15 years of service.
During his career with I-R, he had a number of assignments, first NYC and then Bombay, India where his only child, Eric Russell Stevenson, was born and who also survives him. After that the family moves included Horseheads, New York, The Hague, Netherlands, Stockholm, Sweden, Athens, Greece,
Manchester, England, Charlotte, NC and finally The Woodlands, Texas.
His second career, in The Woodlands was real estate where he was a realtor, owner broker of his own real estate company, one he maintained until his death. He was active in the community and his church.
In addition to those already mentioned, his wife of 64 years, Sandy, The Woodlands and his son Eric (Nancy) of Volcan, Panama, he is survived by two sisters, Janis Johnson of Scottsdale, Arizona and Virginia LaCroix of Rochester, Minnesota. There are two grandchildren, Karl, (Stephanie) of Lititz, PA and Adria (Dan) Wheary of Willow Street. PA, two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Madeline Wheary plus five nephews and other cousins and relatives plus numerous friends and business associates and Saucy, his 8th Manchester Terrier.
There will be a Memorial Service for Roy at Living Word Lutheran Church, in The Woodlands, Texas on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:00pm.
