Ruben was born on June 19, 1926 in Chicago, IL, to parents Miguel Valdés and Otilia deLeón. They returned to Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico in 1931. He graduated from Escuela Coahuila in Saltillo, Coahuila with a degree in Carpentry. In 1947 he returned to Chicago where he worked for more than 40 years.
He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and was a wine connoisseur. His family and friends will always remember him as a knowledgeable, self-taught man.
Ruben is survived by his sisters, Argelia Vera, Rosalinda Junenez, and Dalia Sweeny; brothers Miguel Valdes, and José Francisco Valdés; and his dog Lola.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Valdez, of 60 years; his father, Miguel Valdés; and his mother, Otilia deLeón; his sisters Micaelina Salinas, Maria del Refugio Valdés; and brothers Alfredo Valdés and Gilberto Valdés.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 6-8 p.m., a funeral will be held on February 7, 2020, at 2 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ruben’s life. The family would like to thank our friends, family and neighbors for enriching his life, sharing a good glass of wine with him, and declaring a vigorous “Salud” with a flavorful shot of Tequila.
