Sandra Elizabeth ‘Sandy’ Spillman a 30-year resident of Panther Creek, The Woodlands, Texas and current resident of Fosters Ridge Subdivision in Conroe, Texas passed away unexpectedly during heart surgery on May 31, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital Surgery Center at the age of 79.
Sandy was born Sandra Elizabeth Townsend in Dallas, Texas on August 28, 1943. She was the younger sister to Kutcher Delaine and Linda Lucille born to Delaine Townsend and Mamie Elizabeth Price Townsend. She was closest to her grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Lucker Price, who lived with the family while growing up. In 1950, the family moved to Irving, Texas where she was a 1961 graduate of Irving High School and a 1962 graduate of Draughon’s Business College in Dallas after completing her Executive Secretary Courses. She quickly found work as an executive secretary in Dallas. She met her husband-to-be, James Lewis ‘Jim’ Spillman, when she was a sophomore at Irving High School, and he took her to his senior prom. They married in 1962.
After Jim graduated from college, Jim, Sandy, and their eldest daughter, Susan, made several career moves, first to New York, then back to Texas, where her daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer were born. Their moves also took them to the Boston area, Chicago area, and finally, in 1987 to The Woodlands, Texas. Sandy worked as an executive secretary while in White Plains, NY and for a short time after arriving in The Woodlands, she was then a stay-at-home mom until her husband retired. Sandy came out of retirement in 2005 to be co-owner with Jim of Cartridge World of Conroe, in Conroe, Texas. In 2019 they merged their business with another Cartridge World, and permanently retired.
Sandy loved going to the beach and spending time out in the sun everywhere she lived and visited from Jones Beach Long Island in New York, the West End beaches in Galveston, and when vacationing in Carmel, California, Hawaii, and Aruba. She loved going to dinner with her husband and friends everywhere she lived, and particularly to Market Street and the country club in The Woodlands. And for some strange reason, she loved doing laundry – it made her happy.
She often spoke of how blessed she was with loving and wonderful family and friends!
Sandy is preceded in death by her grandmother, father, mother, brother, and sister.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, and her three daughters, Susan Taylor and her husband Daren Taylor; Stephanie Martin and her husband Shane Martin; and Jennifer Spillman and her husband Joe Murdock; four grandchildren: Alex (Taylor) Todd and her husband Luke Todd; Morgan Martin, Jack Martin, and Hayden Martin; and great granddaughter Renna Todd.
