Sarah was born in Timpson, Texas, to Easter and Dettie Davis, one of twelve children. She resided in Timpson until she was 2 years old, when she moved to Garrison, Texas. During World World II, Sarah and her family moved between Garrison, Pine Hill, and Orange, Texas before making their home in Garrison. In 1952, Sarah graduated from Garrison High School. She loved school and excelled in many academic and physical activities, her favorite being playing basketball from 8th grade until she graduated. In the yearbook, she was voted Most Athletic Girl.
In 1952, Sarah began working as the office manager for the accounting department at American General Investment Corporation in Houston, Texas. During that time, Sarah met and married the love of her life, Herman Teer. They were married 63-1/2 years until his passing. She loved working at American General until she chose to stay home when she and Herman were blessed with their daughter, Dani “Jeanie”, in 1957. They were blessed once again in 1960 with their second daughter, Shirley. In 1961, the family moved to Missouri City, Texas, to raise their family.
Sarah pursued many academic and creative interests along the way. She attended night school and took floral design and t-shirt designing at Wharton Junior College. Sarah also graduated from Clown Alley Clown School with her best friend, Dian Cleckley. Her clown persona, “Teer Drop” was a delight to all and she took pride in bringing smiles to the faces of children and adults alike. In 1968, she went to work at E.A. Jones Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD, where she worked for 24 years. She loved children and people and tried to set a good example. After retiring in 1991, the following yearbook was dedicated to her. Such an honor.
After his retirement, Sarah and Herman worked hard to build their lake home in Lakeside Village on Lake Livingston. They enjoyed beautiful sunsets, catching fish, taking a ride on the pontoon boat, and creating family memories for 15 years. They were members and active in the local Methodist Church, community activities, and volunteer fire department. Sarah was president of the Property Owners Association and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #186 in Trinity, Texas.
Sarah loved to travel. She and her husband were fortunate to visit such places as Japan, Hawaii, Korea, Hong Kong, Alaska, and all over Mexico. They also enjoyed going on cruises. For several summers, Sarah and Herman traveled all over the U.S. in an RV with daughter, Jeanie, and grandchildren, Michelle and Dylan, seeing the sights, learning history, and playing chicken feet and Mexican train. They also enjoyed visiting their daughter, Shirley, in Hermitage, Tennessee. They adventured all over experiencing the beauty of Tennessee during the 15 years Shirley lived there.
In 2006, Sarah and Herman moved to Conroe, Texas, to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, Logan. Sarah took pride in helping others, especially her family. If there was recovery from an accident or surgery, you needed a warm cooked meal, or just needed a little mad money, she was always there with open arms. She was a wonderful woman, strong, dedicated, and a true matriarch with a love for all.
