

Shirley H. Johnson of The Woodlands joined her Savior in Eternal Life on Saturday July 2, 2011. The oldest of 5 children, Shirley was born on June 15, 1943 in Charleston, S.C. to Mr. Delbert H. Holmes and Florence R. Holmes. The daughter of a military father, she moved over 10 times as a youth, finally settling in Pasadena, Texas in 1958. She met her soul-mate Bob Johnson at a church dance on Bob’s first night back from military duty in Germany in March 1963. She had two son’s that loved her dearly, Steve in 1966 and Jim in 1969.
Shirley was a true Renaissance woman, with many talents including sewing anything and everything, creating stained glass masterpieces, and interior design. In fact, at the age of 52 she went back to college and received a degree in interior design.
Her greatest love was her family. Always placing herself and her needs behind others, she taught her sons the meaning of sacrifice, love, forgiveness, loyalty, generosity, compassion, and most of all, perseverance.
Shirley loved many things, especially cruising-16 in all! Other destinations visited included Israel twice, Europe 7 times, and Egypt. She also loved to gamble, and visited Las Vegas and Biloxi too many times to remember.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 47 years Bob Johnson of The Woodlands, her son Steve and his wife Jenny and kids Travis and Kalli of Lakeway, and son Jim and his daughters Abbey and Sarah of the Woodlands. She is also survived by her mother Florence and 4 brothers and sisters.
Services will take place at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery. A visitation will take place Tuesday night July 5th at 6pm. Funeral services Wednesday July 6th at 1pm.
