2022 at the age of 75 years old. Susan was born on April 17, 1947 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Margie Elliott Rose & Lucien Rose. She was the middle child and only daughter. She attended Baylor University, graduating with a BA in English in 1969 and was a very proud Baylor Bear for the remainder of her life, often known to belt out “That Good Old Baylor Line” at any given moment. After graduation she moved to Houston, Texas where she met her husband, Thomas Beaird, and worked in the oil and gas industry as an inhouse landman before staying home to raise her children, Jillian and Andrew, a job she often said was the hardest but most fulfilling she’d ever had. She took great pride in her job as Momma and “Haus Frau”, as she liked to playfully call herself. Susan was also known as “momma” or “Sue” to Jillian and Andrew’s friends, even into adulthood. Her’s was the house known to have the best snacks, the most abundant love and comfort, and the place where she would set “the kids” straight, no matter what, earning her the love and respect of many a teenager. The only thing she loved more than being a mom to her own children and their friends was being Sue Sue to her grandchildren. She was unapologetically delighted by them, always encouraging them in their mischief, much to her children’s chagrin. She would throw her head back laughing and say, “You’re paying for your raising!”
Susan had an unmatched zest for life, an unshakable faith in God, and a wicked sense of humor which often included laughing the hardest at herself. She was a voracious reader who’s desire to learn new things never ended. She loved music, never ever missing an opportunity to drop everything and dance, hosting friends and family for any occasion she could come up with, volunteering for various organizations, and traveling, especially for Houston Astros baseball and Baylor and Texas A&M football games. She also had what she called “a black belt in shopping” and felt genuinely happy on the beaches of Destin, Florida with her family and friends. Susan was the quintessential Matriarch of her family and a faithful and dependable friend to all who were lucky enough to know her. The love she had for her husband, children, and grandchildren will be her greatest legacy and her example of unconditional love and selfless service will echo through her family for generations to come. The sound of her laugh, the warmth of her embrace, and the confidence she instilled with her wisdom will be sorely missed on this side of Heaven.
Susan was preceded in death by her mother (Margie Rose), father (Lucien Rose), youngest brother (Orville Rose), mother-in-law (Vera Joann Whittington Beaird), and father-in-law (Archie Thomas Beaird).
