May 4, 1954, and left this world on July 9, 2023. Susan was the beloved daughter of Louise
Neuhaus, mother of Lindsay Ward (Tommy III) and Lucy Rayford (Andrew), grandmother of
Tessa and Tinsleigh Ward and Palmer and Houston Rayford, and sister of Karen Schneider
(Howard). Susan rejoins her father, Ben Neuhaus, and husband, Cletus (Keek) Derwae, in eternal
peace.
Susan always displayed a carefree and loving spirit. As a child, Susan enjoyed spending time in
Waller at the family farm, riding horses with her cousins, and searching for old gravestones in
the woods. As a fourth-generation Houstonian, she attended The Kinkaid School, graduated from
Lamar High School, and furthered her education at Menlo College in San Fransico, California.
Susan and Keek married and later moved to The Woodlands, Texas, where they raised their two
daughters, Lindsay and Lucy.
Susan was a kind-hearted and generous person with a calming demeanor. Her heart and soul
reached many during her time. Her daughters’ friends loved spending time with her; many
considered her a second mom. Like her heart, she always kept her door open to anyone who
needed love, care, or a good party.
Susan had a genuine love for life. She loved watching The Young and the Restless. She loved
spending time at the family beach house in Galveston, Texas. Keek was from Wisconsin and
soon turned Susan into a die heart Packer fan. But she always had a soft spot in her heart for the
Oilers. Her love for sports resulted in over 25 years of playing fantasy football with some of her
dearest, closest friends.
Susan was also an avid reader and considered by many to be the “grammar police.” Funny
enough, she never missed the obituaries in the newspaper and kept a scrapbook of the ones she
thought she found the funniest and most outrageous. This one would not qualify, but we have at
least tried to capture her spirit.
Above everything, Susan loved her family. Susan loved spending time with her grandchildren
and created everlasting memories that each one will cherish forever. Her sense of humor was one
of a kind, and everyone close to her would agree that there would never be another Susan
Neuhaus Derwae. We love and miss you.
