Tom was born on August 25, 1948 in Pineland, TX to Julius and Thelma Ferrell. The youngest of 10 children, he was the baby of the family and the ‘apple of their eyes’. Tom attended Pineland High School where he met the love of his life, Vessie Smith. The two teenagers eloped shortly after graduation. Thus began their grand adventure together that would span 56 years, and the big wide world. Tom was drafted to serve in the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Sargent and was honorably discharged after serving his country. He worked as a construction superintendent and project manager for over 40 years . With Chicago Bridge and Iron, he completed projects ranging from oil rigs to refueling stations stretching from Hunterston Bay, Scotland to the southern tip of Chile. Tom and Vessie raised two beloved children together, one daughter, Shaneye, and one son, Joshua. Tom had a great passion for traveling and loved to explore new cultures. His favorite country was Peru, where he claimed was the best food on the planet. In his later years he discovered diving and was building a condo on the beach so he could indulge in this passion daily. Tom was known for his strength, but he was loving and compassionate with his children and tender with his wife. He was particularly generous with his heart when it came to his two granddaughters, Grace and London.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Julius, his mother, Thelma, his brothers Harold, Donald, Ralph, and sister Shirley. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jyoti Ma, his son Joshua, daughter Shaneye, son in law David, daughter in law Amelia, granddaughters Grace and London, sisters Billie, Barbara and Gail, and Brothers James and Jack Benny
