Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
She passed away peacefully on her own terms with family, friends, and her cat Tiger by her side until the very end. She fought a long, courageous battle with ALS for twelve years.
Vicki was born in Lakenheath, England. She lived in North & South Dakota, and Florida as a child, and then settled in Texas. She graduated from New Caney High School in 1984.
She worked at Transworld Oil where she met the love of her life, Byron Oliver, and he even told his boss that he is “going to marry that girl” after they met. Their first date was at a TGI Fridays in March 1990, and they would be engaged in May of that year at The Plaza Hotel in New York. They married on October 20, 1990, and on their honeymoon found out they lost their jobs due to the Gulf War. This would take them to Texarkana, TX, where both Alex & Collin were born and lifelong friendships were made. A job opportunity for Byron brought them back to The Woodlands, which would become home for the family. Vicki co-founded and directed the Mother’s Day Out program at the church, and she loved nothing more than interacting with children. She enjoyed watching her son’s baseball games and became a second mother to many of their friends. Her giant smile and heart made anyone happy in her presence, and that impact on people was evident by the support she had throughout her battle.
She was survived by her sons Alex and Collin, dad Mike and his wife Jean, brothers Mike and Rodney, sister Vivienne, aunt Becky, brother-in-law Chris and his wife Judy, sister-in-law Cynthia and her husband Michael, many cousins, nieces, and nephews, honorary nephew’s Liam and Ronin, and last but certainly not least – her exceptional caretakers Dede & Mindy.
Waiting in Heaven are her husband Byron, mom Edie, grandparents Ruby, Frank, Veda, and Charles, aunt Annette, uncles Allen and Mark, and cousin Jeannie.
Memorial service will be at 3:30 on Tuesday, February 13th at Christ Church United Methodist, 6363 Research Forest Dr. in The Woodlands, TX 77381.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the ALS Association of Texas or your local animal shelter.
