He was an electrician, and with his wife, Sybill, founded Wayne Electric, Inc. on June 9, 1975. Wayne Electric has grown and served the commercial electrical contracting needs of Houston for over forty years. Wayne was active in Local 716 and strongly supported the quality and education of union electricians. The Smiths expanded the business to include carpentry and painting in 2005 with the formation of Way-Tech, Inc., a member of several local trade unions.
Integrity and hard work was how he lived his life and he expected the same in others. His word was his bond and everyone knew that if Wayne said it, it was as good as done. He was a generous man and forgave easily. His dry wit and turn of phrase are legendary. Wayne Smith enjoyed his life tremendously and left this world with no regrets. He was blessed with many dear and faithful friends and will be greatly missed.
