Bill’s testimony began in Zanesville, Ohio on December 25, 1923. He was born to parents Edward Royal Crawmer and Frances Louise Morton Crawmer and gave them the best Christmas surprise they ever had! Bill grew up in Ohio and met the love of his life, Carolyn Marie Hickey, when she entered the room as “the new girl” in high school. They never looked back. They began their college education at Ohio Wesleyan University, where Bill was a dashing and fun loving Sigma Chi. Then, America was attacked! Ever brave and true, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps and fought in the First Division in Okinawa, Japan and later served in Beijing, China in WWII. Thankfully, he returned home safely in four years with an honorable discharge. Resuming his college education at Notre Dame University, Bill also married his Carolyn on June 21, 1947. They spent the next 62 years together, loving each other. Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and enjoyed a long and respected career in the pulp and paper industry. He held executive positions in several paper companies, starting with the Mead Corporation in Kingsport, TN. Both children, William Robert and Lynda Carol were born here. Rust Engineering followed, in Pittsburgh, PA, Vancouver, BC and London, England. Toledo, Ohio was the next stop, with Owens Illinois Inc, followed by many years at Brown and Root Inc in Houston, TX, Birmingham, AL and Missoula, MT. The last stop was Willamette Industries, Inc in Hilton Head, SC and Charlotte, NC. What a ride! In every home, Bill was involved and served in the local church. Galveston, TX, became their home for retirement. Both Bill and Carolyn enjoyed working as “Interpretive Naturalists” at Moody Gardens and gave tours through the rain forest and aquarium. Bill also enjoyed his honorary membership in the Rotary Club and served as a Lector at the Trinity Episcopal Church. They joined their children near Houston, in The Woodlands, Texas several years ago, where they are members of The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
Bill deeply loves Jesus Christ, his family and his dogs. He taught his family to love God. He prayed every day. He lived a life of love, integrity and service to others. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his two children, four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. We will miss him deeply until we are joyfully reunited forever in Paradise, with the God who loves us so much!
All Hail The Power of Jesus Name!
