Witold Jerzy Lukaszewski

Witold J Lukaszewski, aged 92, of the Woodlands, Texas, passed into eternal life on August 13, 2025. He was born in Luzki, Poland in August 1932. When Soviet Russia invaded Poland during World War 2, in 1940, he was deported to Siberia with his family and 1.5 million other Poles. From 1942, when he left exile, to 1947 he travelled with Polish civilian families through southern Soviet Union, Persia, and India, then finally reuniting with his father in Great Britain. He completed his High School education there, and in 1950 with his parents emigrated to the United States.

From 1952 to 1955 he served in the US Army in Military Intelligence, after which he completed his BA degree and MA degree from Seton Hall University. He was awarded his PhD from Columbia University in 1973 in Political Science, and was appointed to the faculty of Sam Houston State University in 1970, from which he retired in 2007. In 2010 he was honored as Professor Emeritus.

From 1998-2001 he served as the Vice President for Polish Affairs of the Polish American Congress and worked to achieve the acceptance of Poland into NATO. As well, he had leadership roles in the Polish American Council of Texas and Forum Polonia Houston.

He was married to Halina Lukaszewski, nee Ciesla, from 1960-1973, who passed away in 1973, then later to Alicja M. Lukaszewski nee Urbanec, who passed away in 2010. He is survived by his one daughter Anna Maria (Hania) Raska, son in law Karel Raska, grandchildren Magdalena and Karel Raska, and his long time companion Diana Green.

The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel of St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church , 8715 Kuykendahl Rd, Spring TX , at 1:10 pm Friday August 22, 2025. Burial will be held at a later date at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Halina M. Lukaszewski Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Sam Houston State University. A reception will be held after the Mass at the Paduan Center of the church.
