Dorothy M Kaufmann

(nee Strehlow) Passed away peacefully on June 27th 2014 at the age of 94. Preceded in death by her husband Jack. Mother of Kathryn (Robert) Blakesley, Mequon, WI; Susan (Louis) Smith, Coronado, CA; Virginia (John) Peterson, Moses Lake, WA; and Janet (Michael) Halla, Bedford, IN. Grandmother of Brian (Lisa) and Michael (Holly) Smith; and Thomas (Mary), Daniel and David Halla. Great-grandmother of George, Ann, Mira, Jonah, Lilliane, Moses and Nathan. Also preceded in death by sibling Viola (Cyril) Sindorf and Donald (Lois) Strehlow.

Born February 7, 1920, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Strehlow. She was a tomboy who married the boy next door in 1944. Struck by polio in 1952, she fought back in order to care for four young daughters. She became a valued member of the local PTA and excellent secretary. She enjoyed travel, reading, puzzles and handcrafts, continuing to crochet into her 90’s. She retired with her husband to Bloomington, Indiana, returning to Wisconsin after his death. Throughout her life she maintained a strong faith in the power of guardian angels.
