Janet was a long time resident of Whitefish Bay. She graduated from Milwaukee Downer Seminary, Rollins College and Penn Hall. Janet was a very active and energetic volunteer including the Whitefish Bay Historic Preservation, Meals on Wheels, Milwaukee Art Center, Villa Terrace, Cardinal Stritch Mile of Art, Visiting Nurses Association and church activities.
Janet was a strong, independent woman who loved dogs, loved to travel and will be remembered for her Red Cinnamon gum, her big winged blue chair from which she would direct the commotion of the family's Christmas Eve, her beef barley soup, Almond Rocha treats and the personal time "GG" would spend with each of her grandchildren, whether walking on Klode Beach finding glass stones, or introducing them to the Milwaukee Art Center, or Solly's hamburgers. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining on weekends and holidays for her family.
Born, December 10, 1917, to Charlotte Grabe Stirn and Alfred J. Stirn. Janet grew up in Shorewood.
Janet is survived by her sons, Peter T. (Dolores) Nelson and John A. (Susie) Nelson, grandchildren, Tim Nelson, Wendy (Chris) Conklin, Sara (Drew) Mannetter, Audrey Nelson (Waylund Porter) and Riley Nelson, great grandchildren, Tiernan Conklin, Gaelan Conklin, Brendan Conklin, August Mannetter, Veda Mannetter and Wyatt Nelson Porter.
A private family ceremony is planned. The family would like to thank Kathy Baird and her staff at Kindred Assisted Living for their excellent care of Janet.
