
Mrs. Lawin was born on May 15, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of four children born of Vincent and Anna Dietz. She grew up on the south side of Chicago, attending St. Leo’s elementary school and graduating from Longwood High School in 1953.
Jean worked at Bethlehem Steel from 1953 until 1970, marrying co-worker Gerald Lawin in 1963. She raised two sons as a full-time mother in Illinois and Minnesota, moving to Mequon in 1983. She worked for several years as a teller at St. Francis Bank, and spent her free time exploring estate sales, watching wildlife in her backyard, and enjoying the company of family and friends. She was a loving sister, devoted mother, caring grandmother, and faithful friend. She will be lovingly remembered for her deep faith, wonderful sense of humor, love of animals, and desire to always help others.
Mrs. Lawin is survived by her husband, Jerry, and two sons, Mark, San Francisco, and Scott, New York City, and one grandchild. She is further survived by her brother Jerry, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Dolores and Joseph.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9th from 10AM to Noon followed by a funeral service at Lumen Christi Catholic Parish in Mequon and internment at St. Francis Borgia cemetery in Cedarburg immediately thereafter.
Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to Cure Breast Cancer.
