

Betty was born on November 20, 1926 in Guilford County to the late James Elbert and Hester Roseanna Davis Surrett. Betty attended High Point College and had worked as a Dietician and a Caterer. She especially enjoyed cooking and had a passion for serving meals to her friends and family. She was a Wesleyan all of her life and was a member of Holly Hill Wesleyan Church.
While her children were in school, she served as PTA President and also worked in the school system where her children attended. She was the loving wife of Ernest Carson Klass, with whom she shared over 65 years of marriage until his death in 2012. Most of all, Betty was a homemaker and a beloved mother. Betty and her family resided in Atlanta, GA for 30 years before moving back to Thomasville. She influenced many people in her life as a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Bodenheimer Richardson and Jackie Hale.
Surviving are her three children, Rev. Mark Klass and his wife Rev. Dorothy Klass of Thomasville, Matthew Klass and his wife Linda of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and Martha Melissa Foote and her husband Chris of Knoxville, TN; five grandchildren, James Meissner, Amanda Klass Marion, Lindsey Mullins Hankla, Jeremy J. Klass, and Lauren Mullins. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Tyler Baumann, Madison Hankla, Carlee Hankla, Noah Meissner, Ava Marion, and Ryan Marion; brother, Fred Surrett of High Point and sister-in-law, Jewel Rollins Hepler of Thomasville.
Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, February 16th at Holly Hill Wesleyan Church, 202 W. Holly Hill Rd., Thomasville, with Rev. Mark Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm Saturday, February 15th at Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street.
