A resident of this area all of his life, Mr. Varner was born on May 13, 1930 in Davidson County to the late Ernest and Ora Fritts Varner. He was a lifetime member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church and was a dedicated lineman for the city of Lexington. He had also worked for Huggins Tire for many years. Mr. Varner was a 51 year member of the Denton Masonic Lodge #404, a Shriner at the Oasis Temple, and a dedicated member of the Winston-Salem Scottish Rite. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Varner in 2011.
Surviving are his children, Diane Rodgers of Asheboro, Connie Elkins and her husband Joe of Lexington, and Tim Varner and his wife Diane of Lexington; eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings, Don Varner of High point and Libby Markham of Lexington.
A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, September 2nd at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Richard J. Gould officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Monday, September 1st at Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, Thomasville.
