Bonnie was quite a character, as all who knew her would agree. She was outspoken, sassy, and classy. You always knew where you stood with her. She said what she meant and meant what she said.
She was a smart business person. As young people looking to buy a car or any large purchase, we would take her with us to negotiate a lower price. She persisted until she made a deal that she could live with. She worked hard all her life and taught us the value of money.
Bonnie had a kind heart, helping anyone who was in need. She would take the elderly ladies at church (of which she was one, but wouldn't admit it) on outings, to their doctor's appointments, and out to eat. Even after she went to the nursing home, she would help the other patients with their meals. Each family member was helped by her at some point during their life.
She loved traveling with her sisters. They enjoyed many laughs and adventurous car rides. She always saw humor in situations and would laugh at herself more than anyone else.
When she was a teenager, she was diagnosed with what we now know as COPD and was told she probably wouldn't live to be 20. She proved them wrong and outlived all her siblings. Bonnie had a testimony of knowing Jesus as her Savior. He sustained her and let us keep her with us for 95 years. We will cherish the memories that we have with her. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by five children, Ronald McKinney and wife Kay, Charles McKinney, Nancy McGuire and husband Johnny, William McKinney and wife Donna and Carolyn McKinney; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph McKinney, son Joseph McKinney, Jr. and siblings, Geneva Jones, Pauline Glidwell, Ruby Payne, Glenn Newsome, Louise Davis, Bill Newsome, Betty Higgins, Robert Newsome, Harold Newsome, Thad Newsome, Susie Wheeler and David Newsome.
