Chelsea Nicole Lamb, born August 31st, 1993 died Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 from fatal injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was an incredibly kind and caring young woman with a lion’s heart who never stopped giving to others. Chelsea was quick to make friends and was always looking for ways to help. Quick to defend and protect her friends and family, she was always ready with a quip or joke to help calm a situation before tempers boiled over. Everyone who has ever met Chelsea will never be able to forget the way she touched our lives, and those of us who know her well understand that we will never meet her equal. Chelsea sometimes seemed as though she had a soul that was wise beyond her years; being able to help people work through tough situations that most teenagers couldn't even begin to understand.
Chelsea had an affinity for children and at family gatherings and events could usually be found leading a pack of children. Children were drawn to and charmed by Chelsea and she had the ability to get down on their level and open a line of communication that never failed to amaze the parents and other adults in the room. She didn’t work at this ability; it was her natural gift and will be missed. If you look for photos of Chelsea, you can see this for yourself as so many of them show her with children and smiles on every face.
There are also people who know the giving spirit that extended beyond her family and friends into our community. She spent time in area nursing homes contributing her time and attention to people who needed someone to make them smile. She contributed to food drives and recently expressed her delight in packing boxes of food for the Haitian relief effort, wearing her hairnet as a badge of honor even after finishing for the day. When Chelsea got her drivers license, she proudly made the decision to become an organ donor, and in death, as always in life, she is contributing to others. She was able to provide a heart to one patient, kidneys to two others and a fourth will live with her liver and pancreas. There is no way to know the impact she will have on others with the tissues that have been harvested and preserved.
Chelsea was a member of a large, very close-knit family, all of whom are devastated by losing her. She is survived by her mother, Lisa Leahy Beverly; her father, Eugene Beverly; her sisters, Jasmine Leahy and Victoria Lamb; her step-brother, Cameron Beverly; her grandparents, Peg Leahy and Larry Leahy; her aunts, Brenda Leahy East, Angela Leahy Rasnake, Jennifer Leahy and Heather Williamson; her uncles, Timothy Leahy, Shaun Leahy and Michael East; her cousins, Britt Baxley, Jessica Baxley, Dylan Baxley, Brianna Leahy, Brenna Leahy, Katie Leahy, Sierra Hayes and Hailey Hargrove; and her best friend April English. She is preceded in death by her cousin Alexandrea Baxley and is now reunited with her and the many other family members waiting in heaven.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers or cards, please make a donation to the American Red Cross so that they may continue Chelsea’s lifetime of service.
