David Robert Olsen, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 29, 2025, at his home in Thomasville, N.C. He was born on December 29, 1955, in Phoenix, Arizona, to his mother, Adelaide Belle Smith, and his father, Robert Charles Olsen, both of whom have passed. David is survived by his brother, Stephen Victor Olsen, wife Cindi, son Stephen Jr., and daughter Melanie with her three children; sister Kathleen Anne Levinger, widow to Bruce Levinger, son Chris M. Neher and wife, Allison, and two daughters, Ashley and Faith; sister Debra Jo Leviner, widow to Phillip Leviner, son Phillip Jr., wife Joy, son Kayden, and Debra's other son, Kenneth Leviner; sister Cheryl Lynne Olsen, daughter Maria; sister Linda Grace Christmas, son Michael, wife Tabitha, with their three sons; and sister Tina Maria Parker, husband Steven, and her two sons, Jayson and Cody.
David loved to travel from a young age, when he hitchhiked cross-country from California to North Carolina. It was in Thomasville where he decided to settle since truck driving jobs were plentiful there, short hauls and long hauls, mainly furniture, sometimes produce. He went by the handle "Spooky" on his CB radio and spent over 40 years behind the wheel of an eighteen-wheeler.
All that driving came to an end after he was diagnosed with Diabetes and had to inject insulin daily. Not too long after, he found himself suffering from Peripheral Neuropathy and requiring a wheelchair to get around. He loved singing the oldies and playing his bass guitar until numbness in his fingers took that love away. His memories never left him of the places he went, the people he met, and the stories he'd share with any who wanted to listen. He was loved by many and will be missed at his weekly poker games. David also played a mean game of dice that he taught to most of his friends.
Rest in Peace, my brother, until we meet again.
