He was born in Alamance County on February 15, 1937 a son to the late Howard Odell Blackwell and Lillie Myrtle Minor Blackwell. He was a graduate of Williams High School and attended North Carolina State University. He worked as a design engineer for many years before his retirement. He had a great love for animals, especially his dogs over the years and lastly his rescued cat Maddie. His favorite times with family were spent with trips to Beaufort, NC where he collected many hand carved shore birds and decoys. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and seeing them grow up with their many activities fascinated him proudly. In his retirement he began working with his son Steve in funeral service and they shared many great times together with the people he met and the families they served.
Surviving are his wife, Clarice Johnson Blackwell; his son, Steve Blackwell and wife Melissa; his granddaughters, Alyssa Blackwell and Lauren Blackwell and his grandson, Bryan Blackwell.
A celebration of Howard’s life will take place at Alamance Memorial Park in the later part of spring this year.
The family would like to thank all the trauma doctor’s and critical care nurses at UNC Hospital for their wonderful and professional care that was given to Howard.
