

A resident of this area all of his life, Jay was born on December 21, 1940 in Mt. Airy to the late James Allen Wright and Mozelle Wright Gosnell and grew up in Winston-Salem, NC. He was a residential painter by trade and an avid musician and songwriter. Jay played guitar, banjo, fiddle, and the mandolin. He was known for his musical talents in Winston-Salem, High Point, Thomasville, and Nashville, TN and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by brother, Dennis Allen Wright; sisters, Sandra Kay Brooks and Bernice Adele Hailey; and daughter, Tina Leigh Wright Darnell.
Surviving are his wife, Billie Ann Wright of High Point; daughter, Rita Wright Darnell Adams; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Lee Wright and his wife Marie and Adam Lane Wright and his wife Angel. Also surviving are grandchildren, Zachary, Jordan, Weston, Jahir, and Damien, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jay’s life will be held at 6:30 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, Thomasville with Rev. David Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
