Joann was born in Davidson County, July 16, 1941, a daughter of the late George and Grace Lambert Wilson. She retired from Parkdale Mills after 44 years of dedicated service. Joann was a faithful member of Wayside Tabernacle Freewill Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren, going shopping and trips to the beach and mountains. She especially enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales. Joann was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Wesley Hanks; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Hanks and Danny Ray Hanks; and a brother, Donald Wilson.
Surviving are two daughters, Penny Garrett and her husband Jeff and Janice Gantt; her sister, Betty Sechrist; two grandsons, Benjamin Hanks and Wesley Gantt and his wife Rebecca; four great-grandchildren, Hayley Forester, Michael Hall and Jacob and James Gantt; a special nephew, Ricky Sechrist and his wife Velva and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Joann's life will be held Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Garrett. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 until the service.
