

John was born in Columbus County, on May 6, 1930, a son of the late Dewey and Retha Norris and grew up on a farm in Tabor City, NC. John proudly served his country as a Corporal and military policeman in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning a Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. After John’s service to his country, he worked as a Superintendent at Alma Desk Company and Hayworth Industries for fifty years.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Norris; his son, Rex Norris, and five siblings, Hazel Spivey, Ronald Norris, Ed Norris, Avery Norris, and Violet Creech. Surviving are four children, Ginny Blair (Brent), Mark Norris (Shelly), Kent Norris (Lynne), and Rocky Norris (Lisa); eleven grandchildren, Brian Norris (Scarlett), TJ Norris (Casey), Summer Taylor (Derek), Clint Davis (Krystle), Justin Frank (Rachel), Benjamin Norris, Sydney Wright (Terry), Connor Blair (Kassidy), Brooke Blair, Tori Norris, and Tillon Norris; twelve great-grandchildren, Reagan Norris, Caleb Greene, Leah Taylor, Lillie Taylor, Sonder Davis, Lottie June Norris, Aubrey Frank, Rae Frank, Elizabeth Frank, Aubree Wright, Theodore Wright, and Bo Blair; and a brother, Donald Norris.
John found his greatest joy in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow into the remarkable people they are today, admiring and loving them all deeply. He took the most pride in celebrating the achievements and milestones of his loved ones, finding immense happiness in recognizing their hard work, dedication, and successes. Above all, John cherished the legacy of his family, which brought him endless joy and stood as the highlight of his life.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home Chapel, by Pastor Rodney Skipper. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
