John Robert Porterfield

A resident of this area all of his life, John was born on January 14, 1959 in Rockingham County, the son of the late James and Maggie Baldwin He had worked as a truck driver for many years and was a devoted member of Fisher Street Baptist Church in Concord. He especially enjoyed going to the beach, fishing, cooking, visiting the mountains, and watching NASCAR. Johnny loved all sports and had a great competitive nature along with all of his many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sheila Porterfield.

Waiting to be reunited is his wife, Kelly Porterfield of the home; children, John Porterfield, Jr. and Melissa Porterfield, both of High Point, Bobbi Weaver and husband Sean of Concord; siblings, Dorothy Simpson of Reidsville, Pete Porterfield of High Point, Debbie Moll and husband David, Judy Styles and husband Milton, both of Thomasville; and one of his best friends and sister-in-law, Tammy Woods of Thomasville. Also surviving are six special grandchildren, Lexy Weaver and boyfriend Isaac, Andrew Weaver, Sasha Perry and husband Ricky, Kaytlyn, Taylor, and Nathan; and a special nephew, Joey and his wife Vicki and their little angel, Kyleigh.

Another one of John’s many special joys in life came to him in June 2012 in the form of a furry little kitty, Gia Lyn Porterfield that has shown him unconditional love and was always by his side.

Visitation will be held for family and friends Friday, September 12th from 6 until 8 pm at Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, Thomasville.

A great celebration of John’s life will be held at 1 pm Saturday, September 13th in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home with Reverend Joey Spry and Reverend Rob Fenske officiating.
