Murphy Wayne Barratiere, 3, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020. He was born February 21, 2017 to Steven and Kelly Hubbard Barratiere in Wilmington, North Carolina

Murphy touched the hearts of those around him in a special way that only Murphy could. He carried happiness everywhere he went and would brighten your day with his contagious laugh and adorable smile. Murphy’s strength and bravery were truly inspiring, and his determination was unmatched. He was always happy to be around people and loved to watch what was going on around him. Murphy loved playing outside, picking up leaves and sticks, and having bike races with his sister. He loved to listen to music and have people sing to him, sometimes dancing along. Murphy’s most favorite things to do were swimming in the pool, riding on Dad’s shoulders, and reading books with Grandpa. Murphy is so loved, and we are thankful to have had the precious time with him. Murphy brought an abundance of joy to this world and will be missed every minute of every day. We will hold him in our hearts forever.

Murphy is survived by his parents, his older sister Brylee, and his younger brother Conor.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to UNC Children’s Hospital. Checks can be made to UNC Children’s and mailed to UNC Health Foundation, 123 W. Franklin Street, Suite 510, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 or donations can be made online at https://go.unc.edu/Ct6s2.

Murphy was a beautiful soul. His infectious and ever present smile lit up the room and everyone in it. While this is a great loss to us, he will live on, in our memory and thoughts for as long as we live.

I remember being in the living room and Murphy staying really close to mom, in my mind I said oh your going to fall in love with me little man, Well he eventually started playing with me. It was that moment I feel in love with Murphy. When I would go to his classroom to work with him or to visit because I needed a sincere smile it never failed he was always ready to smile and hug me. He was full of joy and hope and God allowed him to touch so many adults. I will pray for you all and know he will be missed. To his sister thank you for being such a big loving sister. I will never forget how you would come in my room and remind me to go see Murphy and tell him hi for you. You always remembered I was his teacher and you made sure all the students in your class know I was his teach. I love you all and may God give you strength today.
Missed but never forgotten 💔

Unfortunately we only met Murphy once (we live in CO), but we will cherish that memory! However, his grandma Diane kept us uptodate on all his activities and progress.
I think one of the highlights for Murphy was when he was able to go to school.
We can tell by his teacher's comments that he certainly touched their hearts .
We will always remember this special little boy. Our hearts go out to his parents, Kelly and Steven, and sister Brylee.

Murphy brought so much light into the many lives he touched. His smile was infectious and you couldn’t help but return it. Even now, it warms my heart to think of that little grin. It was a privilege to teach Murphy. It was a privilege to get to know him. His beautiful spirit was such a blessing to me. Rest easy, Murphy.

Murphy was so loved by so many. His smile and spunky personality brought so much joy to everyone. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to watch him grow and progress. Murphy was such a special boy! I’ll never forget him grinning at me when we were being silly, him holding my hands while gesturing along to his favorite songs and him waving back at me with a big and precious smile through the door when I left. Murphy will be greatly missed by so many. I have admired his parents for how much love, care, and support they gave to Murphy. Murphy was blessed with great parents just as they were certainly blessed having him. God bless them and the rest of the family.

Murphy became very special to me in the short time that I knew him. I loved working and playing with him while he was in daycare. He brought such joy to my heart everyday. I remember calling him my boyfriend and he would just laugh. I will never forget him coming into my room one day so excited to show me that he could walk without assistance. He was most definitely a very special boy who captured a lot of hearts. I will miss him dearly but knowing one day I will see him again in Heaven. I love you Murphy! Rest in Paradise with Jesus!

I really am at a loss for words. During Murphy's short Life he affected the Lives of many. I had watched him grow through many successes in his Life and I expected that he would continue. I feel so far away in Connecticut and the Covid 19 problems only make things worse. May Peace be with his entire family. Requiescat in pace, Murphy. You will life forever in our hearts. Great Uncle Skip.
