Norman earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of New Mexico, a testament to a steady dedication to learning and the disciplined pursuit of his goals. He went on to serve his country with honor for six years in the U.S. Navy and continued his commitment through service in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
For many years, Norman built a distinguished career at Sperry Defense and Space Systems in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked as an Aviation Electronics Engineer. His professional life reflected care, precision, and a quiet reliability—qualities that also shaped the way he showed up for family, friends, and those he met along the way.
Norman was one of nine siblings, and family remained a constant and meaningful part of his life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice M. Trotta; and his brother, Stephen R. Balia. He is survived by his sisters, June D. Shannon, Christine Balia, Theresa L. Yuelling, and Diana J. Balia; and his brothers, Joseph E. Balia, Robert N. Balia, and John A. Balia. Norman is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those closest to Norman will also remember the simple comforts that brought him joy—his sweet tooth, his love of homemade chocolate pudding, butter scotch candies, homemade peanut butter cookies, and Dr Pepper soda. These small favorites, warmly familiar, are part of what made time with him feel personal and memorable.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 28, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Sechrest-Davis Funerals & Cremations, 976 Phillips Ave., High Point, NC. A Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm.
Norman was a kind and loving soul to his family and people he met. He will always be missed and loved. Always in our hearts forever.
