A resident of this area all of his life, Roger was born on September 18, 1949 in Guilford County, a son to Hueston Gilbert Lackey and Nancy Kearns Lackey Hill. He was a true servant of the Lord and a very dedicated member at Fairfield United Methodist Church. At Fairfield, Roger was an usher, Adult II Sunday School Teacher, head of the missions committee, and on the disaster relief committee. As a member of the United Methodist Men, he also took great pride in helping with the annual Barbecues.
Roger was one of the friendliest people you could ask to meet. He was a friend to all and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Most of all, he was a loving son, father, brother, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hueston Gilbert Lackey; sister, Susan Gray; and brother-in-law, Wayne Gray.
Surviving are his mother, Nancy Kearns Lackey Hill; children, Rachel Lackey of the home, Hueston Lackey and wife Brianna of Thomasville, Casey Kearns and husband Steve of Archdale, Gina Cooper and husband Chuck of Charlotte, Tania Stewart and husband Andy of Asheboro, and Kevin Maysonet and wife Stacey of Kingsland, GA; sisters, Kay Winfrey and husband Bob of Trinity and Fay Trotter and husband Gary of Trinity; and brother, David Lackey and wife Kim of Trinity. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Cole, Sydney, Dillon, Collin, Courtney, Taylor; three great-grandchildren Aaden, and Bentley, and Cayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 2 pm Thursday, February 1 at Fairfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Oliver Helsabeck officiating . The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 pm Wednesday, January 31 at Thomasville Funeral Home.
