A resident of this area all of her life, Ms. Nifong was born on May 10, 1912 in Davidson County to the late Robert Samuel Nifong and Zella Theora Ridge Nifong. She grew up in the Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church and also attended Free Pilgrim Church in Thomasville. Ruby had also worked as a seamstress for many years and during World War II, she and her family moved to Newport News, VA to work in the Naval Shipyards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Reitzel Nifong, Paul Nifong, Hazel Nifong, Ray Nifong, Earl Nifong, Winnie Clodfelter, Marie Albertson, and Mildred Steele.
Surviving is her sister, Youthalene Adderholdt of Thomasville; niece and caregiver, Miriam Adderholdt, nephew and caregiver, Mark Adderholdt; and brother-in-law, Ralph Thurman Albertson. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street with Dr. E. Keith Carroll, Senior Pastor of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, Pastor Wilson Harris, Visitation Pastor of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, and Dr. David Kolb, Spiritual Counselor of Hospice of Davidson County officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
