My brother (Jedd) and I were also Troop 65 Eagle Scouts thanks a great deal to Russ and Mary Lou. I'm not sure whether we were more proud to be Troop 65 Eagle Scouts or Russell was more proud of all of his scouts. I had the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout in 1963 with Don Cochran. The next Eagle Scout in Troop 65 was my brother Jedd. Our mother was very proud of that.

To Mary Lou and her grieving family, please accept the heartfelt sympathies of the DePope Family, and each and every Boy Scout who had the distinct honor of being a member of Troop 65.

I was one of Russ' Eagle Scouts in the period of 1960 to 1964. Russ was a fantastic Scoutmaster - he truly loved being around his Scouts and we, in turn, liked and respected him. We went to Philmont (the national Scout ranch) in Summer of 1963. It was a fabulous time and opened me up to the possibility of living in the West. I made that move not long after graduating from college and have been in Washington, Oregon, and now Arizona ever since.

We send our condolences to the family. I know how difficult it is to say goodbye to someone who has been in your life for so many years. You can be so very proud of your husband, father, grandfather. He positively effected the lives of hundreds of boys. He was a role model that was unparalleled.

The attached photo was from our Philmont trip. Russ is second row, fourth from the left.
